2014 Round 26, Half time.

4th September Birthdays.

Rhett Biglands 1977, Jason Davenport 1985, Marty Lyons 1956.

PLAYER OF THE DAY. James Clement, born 4th September 1976.
In 1996 James played his first game for Fremantle and from then until 2000 he was in 84 games for 38 goals.

Missing only 2 matches in 3 seasons from his second year, he was used mainly in defence but did kick 6 goals in a game against St. Kilda as the full forward.

Due to circumstances he only played a handful of games in 2000 and at the end of the year moved to Collingwood.

At his new club he became a swing player, using his strong marking wherever it was needed. With the Magpies from 2001 to 2007 his best years were 2004 and 2005 when he won the clubs Best and Fairest and was All Australian.  He played 146 games for Collingwood and kicked 13 goals.

Ken and Mark Fraser.
Ken Fraser played 198 games for 197 goals at Essendon between 1958 and 1968.  Breaking into the team straight away he played at centre half forward but was more than happy to run out to the flanks to receive the ball.

Club Captain from 1965-’68, he was a 2 time Premiership player and represented Victoria 9 times.

Mark Fraser didn’t follow his father to Essendon initially but was drafted to Collingwood where he played 45 games and kicked 23 goals from ’92-’94.
Playing well in his first year, his form dropped off after that and in 1995 he did move to Essendon.
They picked him up as a fast winger which they hoped would be suited to the MCG. As it turned out he didn’t make it as a regular in the team and between 2000 and 2005 he was in 65 games for 26 goals.

East Fremantle Football Club.
Established in 1898, East Fremantle were firstly known as the Angels then the Old Easts and are now the Sharks. One of the main driving forces behind them was Tommy Wilson who had played in Victoria, possibly for North Melbourne, and had moved to the West when gold was discovered there.
Since their first Premiership in 1900 they have won 29 in all, including two runs of 4 (1908-1911 and 1928-1931), and have been runners up 28 times.
Along the way they have produced 12 Sandover Medalists and have seen a number of players join VFL/AFL ranks. Some of these are; Simon Black, Daniel Chick, Ben Cousins, Ken Judge and Daniel Kerr.

Shannon Grant – Norm Smith Medalist.
For 3 seasons (1995-1997) Shannon was a Sydney Swans player in 58 games for 38 goals, being drafted to them in 1994 via the Western Jets.
He had wanted to stay in Victoria but Sydney were persistent and got their man and used him to great result as a half forward or half back.
1998 found him get his wish when he moved back to his home state and joined North Melbourne. Over the next 11 seasons he became a regular in the side, playing 243 games and kicking 323 goals.
Probably starting off slower than he would have liked at his new club, by the time the 1999 Grand Final came around he was again at his best and managed to win the Norm Smith Medal.
Renowned as a player who could bob up and kick a goal just when it was needed, he won the club Best and Fairest in 2001 and was runner up in 2003, ’04 and ’05.  As well as being a Premiership player in 1999 he was All Australian in 2005.
